John Wiseman for Fabian Executive election part 2

I believe the voting begins next week.

Statement below

As a Labour party progressive, I feel we need to change society. We must make it more equal, so more inclusive than exclusive. As part of this change we must close the poverty gap. As an active trade unionist, co-operator, Manchester society member and democratic socialist, I feel we must debate key issues around us including the environment and economic instability. I will hopefully match the proud tradition of Fabians.

Re: John Wiseman for Fabian (#1)

John,

Can you please explain to me how being a supporter of John McDonnel is possible whilst seeking election to the Fabian Executive.  The Fabians are famously progressive, but also proudly gradualist.  McDonnell was and is a pseudo revolutionary.

Exactly where in the Fabians do you see your votes coming from?

Re: John Wiseman for Fabian (#3)

Would you say that John McDonnell is really that revolutionary? Last time I looked at the LRC set of polices they were quite clearly left wing, but nothing amazingly excessive.

Re: John Wiseman for Fabian Executive (#2)

Good of you to ask.  There has been many lefties and centre-lefties in the Fabian society eg Tony Benn.  The Fabians have usually had a mixture of progressives.  I may be on the left/centre-left, but progression can be in various forms.  I would hope to bring balance to the committee with the experience I have.  I am a political officer for the co-op (Manchester), a shop stewrd and a supporter of compass as well as the LRC.  I do feel having input from all sides of the party is good, although my views may be of left orientation.

Re: John Wiseman for Fabian Executive (#4)

It's good to see somebody like John going for this: continuing the tradition of thoughtful, full-blooded socialist Fabians, from Edith Nesbit and George Bernard-Shaw, through R H Tawney to Tony Benn.

Re: John Wiseman for Fabian Executive (#5)

Thanks for the support.  I feel there is a need for agrassroots feel for the fabian movement, so again please consider your options as voters.

Thanks
